No Microwave Popcorn!
One of my kids told me a while ago about how workers at factories that make microwave popcorn have to wear full-body protective suits because the chemicals in the "butter" flavoring are toxic. Needless to say we cut that out of our diets. (This was before we retired our own microwave.) I found an article today that says basically the same thing. It talked about how the companies making it said they took the toxins out several years ago but now studies are showing that the stuff they replaced it with is just as toxic! Some workers at these plants are filing lawsuits over it!
I KNOW it tastes great and it's fast, but it's TOXIC! You can buy an air popper for $10 and a bag of popcorn kernels for about $1.50. Pop your own and drizzle melted butter and real salt over it and YUM!!! An inexpensive, healthy snack! Get that toxic crap out of your pantry and into the trash ASAP! An easy thing to do to improve your family's health right now! Don't tell me it's extreme to toss it out or that I shouldn't believe everything I hear. Sometimes you HAVE to be extreme in order to keep yourself and your family healthy. Research it yourself and see what you find. I would love to talk about it!

That's really scary stuff. I've been putting off getting an air popper, but I think I'll be moving it higher up the priority list now.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Only the real stuff for me!
ReplyDeletei wonder if i could find one at DI?
ReplyDeleteJust made homemade popcorn for the first time this last week - finally put a Christmas gift to good use! (a popcorn popper pan) My girls loved it and it tasted SO MUCH better than the microwave popcorn.
ReplyDeleteI like cooking mine on the stove better. turn your burner on medium heat, coat the bottom of a pan with oil (coconut-yum!) pour in kernels to cover the bottom of pan (make sure they are coated with oil) cover and wait for all the kernels to pop. no need to shake or stir. if all the kernels are coated with oil, they will all pop. my family likes the butter flavor so I will usually add some butter afterwards with Real salt. I love adding stevia (tastes like kettlecorn!)
ReplyDeleteI pop mine on the stove with butter. It doesn't add a ton of butter taste, but my family loves it. Sometimes I throw together some candy coating to throw on it with nuts. I boil butter and brown rice syrup for the candy. It's so easy I can do the whole thing in about 15 minutes.
ReplyDeleteMind if I share my recipe for super yummy popcorn? I clarify about a cup of butter for starters (google it if you don't know how). Then I use enough of the clarified butter to pop the corn on the stove top, store the rest, and save the foam and milk solids from the clarification to throw on the popcorn when it's done popping. It's so good. Lots of butter taste with no oily taste included and the clarified butter doesn't burn. I also like butter and brown rice syrup on mine.
